If it tastes good&eat it! If it were that easy, the doctor swouldn't be yelling at you because you have high blood pressure. Sometimes it's the salt. Most companies use it as a food enhancer and boy does it make the food taste better!
Sodium is a naturally occurring mineral found in all foods. The body uses it to help regulate fluid balance. The body only needs about 200 milligrams (mg) a day of sodium, but it's not uncommon for people in this country to consume 4,000 to 5,000 milligrams of sodium daily. There's no easy way to tell who is sodium-sensitive and who isn't.
At Taco Del Mar, use these suggestions to reduce your sodium (listed in mg) intake:
- Choose fish (340 mg), chicken (410 mg) or pork (440 mg) rather than beef
- Go for the plain flour tortilla 13" (240 mg) instead of flavored tortillas
- Use green sauce (45 mg) or red sauce (45 mg) instead of hot habanero sauce (160 mg) or white sauce
- Ask us to go easy on the enchilada sauce (610 mg) and salsa (210 mg) - we typically add a generous 3 ounce portion
- Opt for whole pinto beans (200 mg) in place of black beans (420 mg) or refried beans (480 mg)
- Order the "Almost" version of your favorite Jumbo or Super Burrito - a smaller portion means less sodium
