Avneet Brah grew up in the quick-serve restaurant business.
His dad has operated multiple Subway units in the Fresno area for 16 years.
But the younger Brah turned to a different brand when he ventured out on his own.
Just 20 years old, Brah is getting ready to open his second restaurant, this one in the Walgreens center at Willow and Herndon avenues in Clovis. It should open in early November.
The company's signature item is a "mondo" burrito with slow-cooked marinated meats such as braised chicken, carne asada and seasoned pork. Brah counts Chipotle as its chief competitor.
"We bump heads with Chipotle most often," he said.
Brah also operates the Taco Del Mar at Kings Canyon Road and Clovis Avenue, and, as master developer in the area, assigned a franchisee to run one at Cedar Avenue and Champlain Drive in Fresno.
In addition, franchisee Leticia Torres will open a Taco Del Mar at Mooney Boulevard and Caldwell Avenue in Visalia in November, and the husband-and-wife team of Amarjit and Jaswinder Dhanoa are planning one somewhere in Tulare.
Restaurants also are open in Hanford, and in a gas station near Turlock.
They join Taco Bell, Del Taco and others in the ever-competitive quest for diners' discretionary income.
