BAJA-INSPIRED, QUICK-CASUAL TACO DEL MAR BREAKS NEW DINING GROUND IN REGINA

EDMONTON—Sept. 13, 2006—Regina can lay claim to being among the first municipalities east of British Columbia to introduce a hot restaurant segment--quick-casual Mexican--to the Canadian Prairies. Already a raving success in B.C., and other parts of North America, Taco Del Mar, known for “mondo burritos and rippin’ tacos,” announces its first two Regina locations: Riverbend Plaza at 2747 East Quance Street, now open, and 1101 Kramer Boulevard, neighboring the University of Regina, opening Sept. 30. Larry Boulanger and Rocky Smith are franchisees of both locations.

Boulanger and Smith reported brisk sales and lines leading out the door since opening Thursday, Sept. 7, underscoring the warm reception the restaurant has received.

&#xWe’re thrilled to bring something to Regina that is virtually non-existent in the marketplace, a made-to-order, Baja Mexican-inspired restaurant that brings a fresh, fast and fulfilling experience to its customers,” said Boulanger. “There are a number of burger, sandwich and fast food type Mexican restaurants, but nothing close to Taco Del Mar.”

Each Taco Del Mar features signature, 24-ounce mondo burritos and tacos with slow-cooked chicken, beef or pork; a choice of four tortillas; shrimp and fish tacos and burritos; enchiladas; kids’ meals; taco salads; vegetarian and vegan offerings. The store decor sets the “Baja” mood with beach-theme murals, thatched palapas (umbrellas), mounted sailfish, long board tabletops and lively background music.

Regina’s introduction of Taco Del Mar builds upon the success the restaurant has enjoyed in B.C., where TDM Canadian Franchising Corp. first began growing the chain in Canada three years ago.

Master Developer Darryl Chandra and his business partners recognized the enormous potential for the brand based on the void of fast-casual Mexican restaurants in the marketplace and the warm reception it received. There are now 24 locations in B.C., and new locations also ready to open this month throughout Alberta. Boulanger and Smith plan to franchise several more Taco Del Mar restaurants in areas surrounding Regina.

Taco Del Mar was co-founded in Seattle in 1992 by brothers James and John Schmidt. Taco Del Mar remains independent, unlike many “Mexi-fresh” restaurant concepts that are publicly traded or owned by big burger companies.

There are more than 207 Taco Del Mar locations throughout the North America.
