BAJA-INSPIRED TACO DEL MAR
SURFS INTO FLOWOOD
Beachhead Partners’ Fred Vosloh and Scott Redlich introduce
Mondo Burritos and Rippin Tacos” to Gulf South
SEATTLESept. 11, 2006The Jackson community is about to bite into something unlike anything else aroundthe “Mondo Burritos and Rippin’ Tacos” of Taco Del Mar. Two tenacious entrepreneurs with local ties, Fred Vosloh and Scott Redlich of Beachhead Partners, LLC, are bringing this wave of Baja-inspired food to the Gulf South starting with their first Taco Del Mar location: 371 Ridge Way at the Lakeland Commons in Flowood on Thursday, Sept. 21.
This development team consists of childhood friends born and raised in the Gulf South. Redlich attended high school in Vicksburg, Miss. Both graduated from Louisiana State University and became respected business leaders who lived and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Japan, and Russia. The two are back in the Gulf South to proliferate Taco Del Mar, with plans to open 70 locations in the next 7 years across four states, from Louisiana to the Florida panhandle. Numerous opportunities to own a Taco Del Mar in communities surrounding Jackson readily exist, Vosloh said. Both business partners currently reside in Flowood and will operate their own location.
?lowood was an easy choice for us to start developing; we were really embraced by the community and you couldn’t find a more business-friendly environment anywhere,” Redlich said. “People have been stopping by the restaurant for weeks asking when we are opening, and it’s been really exciting for us.”
Each Taco Del Mar features signature, 24-ounce mondo burritos with slow-cooked chicken, beef or pork; a choice of four tortillas; shrimp and fish tacos and burritos; enchiladas; kids’ meals; taco salads, including the new Cabo Chicken Salad; vegetarian and vegan offerings. The store decor sets the “Baja” mood with surf-themed murals, thatched palapas, mounted sailfish, long board tabletops and lively background music.
The Flowood location also features a pick-up window for call-ahead orders, to beat the heat.
Near term development plans include Taco Del Mar restaurants in Natchez/Vidalia (opening in November), Baton Rouge, La., Mobile, Ala., and Pensacola, Fla.
The fast casual chain was co-founded in Seattle in 1992 by brothers James and John Schmidt. Taco Del Mar remains independent, unlike many “Mexi-fresh” restaurant concepts that are publicly traded or owned by big burger companies.
There are more than 205 Taco Del Mar locations throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada.
