(Seattle)Jan. 17, 2006Taco Del Mar, a Seattle-based quick service restaurant chain specializing in Baja style “mondo burritos and rippin’ tacos,” announced today it has successfully completed negotiations with British Columbia based TDM Federal Holdings, Inc. to develop restaurants across Canada. The deal could produce 300 Taco Del Mar franchises in Canada over the next four years, and nearly double that by 2014.
Currently, there are 22 Taco Del Mar restaurants in British Columbia, headed by partnering Master Developers Darryl Chandra, Jas Shergill, and Michael Anthony of TDM Federal Holdings, Inc. Their new enterprise takes the same success they’ve created in the western province eastward and into the prairies, Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes. Financial details of the sale were not disclosed.
“Over the past two years, this group has done an outstanding job of developing new franchisees, locations and infusing our brand with great enthusiasm in Canada,” said Taco Del Mar President David Huether. “We look forward to working with them as they develop the rest of the country.”
The 2006 focus will be to launch Taco Del Mar in Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
Chandra said his group is thrilled at the opportunity to proliferate the brand cross-country, based on the success of its B.C. development. Carefully laying the groundwork to source Canadian vendors and creating a niche market for tacos and burritos, he said he is confident Taco Del Mar will be seamless fit, sorely needed across Canada.
The Canadian partnership, TDM Federal, combines young energy with years of experience. Two of the TDM Federal partners, Shergill, 30, and Chandra, 27, are business school graduates from the Entrepreneurial Leadership program of Surrey, BC-based Kwantlen University. They said their education perfectly primed them for developing Taco Del Mar franchises. Michael Anthony handles real estate; he brings more than 30 years experience in the industry to the team.
